THE Gundog Trainer can and does train complete newcomers as well as experienced handlers and owners. THE Gundog Trainer:- Working Dog or Pet Dog ?

THE Gundog Trainer is often asked if a pet dog can be a working dog and vice versa.

 

The answer is that it depends on the dog and it depends on you.

 

Some animals from pure working lines are extremely intelligent and hyperactive and need stimulation to satisfy their drive. If they don't get it, they will use their minds and energy on other things and can end up being destructive, aggressive or both. It is unreasonable to expect a pure bred hunting dog to be happy and placid whilst you are away at work for 12 hours each day and it is confined in a small flat.

 

Similarly, if you have a dog from show lines and suddenly decide to become a full blown outdoorsman, you may well be disappointed to discover that your cuddly little lap dog doesn't share your enthusiasm and can see no point whatsoever in looking for game. 

 

Choose your dog carefully taking account of the time you will be able to devote to it, the exercise and stimulation you will be able to give it and what it has been bred to do.
